Decent fishing

This is not an actual review, but I'm almost certain that this campground does not exist in north stonington (though I WISH, it looks stunning) in fact one of the pictures is the 360 view of the road in north stonington, CT where it should be. And a lot of the reviews seem to be from California.

Great campground for a large group of people. There are plenty of picnic tables and the Kern River is just right there! You will want to bring some pop canopies for shade during the day. The bathrooms are port of potties and it is a good idea to bring extra to.

Halfway Campground is a descent place for a group camping trip, especially when all the other group sites are taken in the more popular places in the region. Camped here once in the fall and once in early spring with a small group and we were the only ones in the whole campground, which was actually really nice, but also felt creepy at the same time. It felt very secluded. The campground is right next to the river and has great views of the mountains on either side of the canyon. It was kind of sad that there was graffiti all over the boulders and evidence of illegally made fire pits even though established fire pits are provided!

Just down the road from Halfway Campgrounds is Kernville, where the people that take care of this facility operate. They are very religious and extremely dedicated to their beliefs, and this is reflected in their supurbe upkeep of this and all the facilities along the Kern River - these people are good people, and you can tell by how well they keep their public land, and the service they bring to the entire USA Nation and all its peoples

The bathroom was just one single porta potty which was kind of annoying for a large group. They didn't come to clean/restock at all while we were there, and cars continually pull off the highway during the day to use it, so the TP was gone fast. Bring extra tp and don't leave it in the toilet or do what we did and drive over to Headquarters campground 1/4 mile down the road and talk to the host and they'll give you extra tp for free. Also there's no running water at all, so bring your own or you'll be collecting water from the river. Normally Headquarters has water spigots but they were out of order when we were there, so be prepared! It's only a 10 minute drive into town if you need more food/water/supplies.

Overall, Halfway is a decently secluded (at least in the fall and spring) campground with great views, but lacks any real amenities that most campgrounds offer and is showing some signs of misuse and neglect.
